What must I bring to my interview?
So, you’ve had the telephone interview and were accepted. A date is agreed for you to come to the agency for the formal, physical interview. This is all going well, except that you forgot to ask what you need to bring to the interview! To call back and ask would look a little silly. What to do?
Here’s a breakdown of the things that you need to bring with you. It is also a good idea to take a copy of everything. These may never be needed but if they are, you will have them all ready.
1. Proof of eligibility to work in the UK and identification. This can be any two of the following items.
2. Valid driving license/foreign license which allows you to drive in the UK along with your original international driving license.
3. Your updated CV. Make sure that this covers all your relevant skills and work experience. It must cover a full working history. Live-in care agencies do not like to see any gaps in your work history so make sure that if you have a gap, you add any volunteer work or other explanation as to why you were not working.
4. Previous addresses. You will need to provide addresses for the last five years to satisfy the CRB check so make sure you have them at hand instead of trying to remember them when you are already under pressure.
5. Any qualification certificates you have, along with any reference letters you have. Even if they are not relevant to the job you are applying for, bring them so that they can be recorded. You will need to supply a reference from a previous employer as well as a character reference from someone. It is best not to have this from you sibling, rather try to get one from a work colleague.
6. Any previous issued CRB Disclosure Certificates, along with any you have had in another country. Some agencies ask that you have a check done in the country where you live before you come to interview with them. Even though this delays you a little, make sure that you have it done as they may not hire you without the document.
7. Photographs of yourself. Sometimes the agency who hire you will take photographs themselves, although this is not always the case. It is far easier to get two passport photographs taken before you arrive.
6. Cash. You will need to hand over £63.20 in cash to your agency so that they can start your CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) and ISA (independent Safeguarding Authority) checks.
To sum up
Being prepared for your interview will go a long way to reduce the stress which most people will feel at an interview, particularly if you have arrived from another country. Everything depends on that interview! Keep all your documentation and all the copies in a folder so that you don’t lose any part. Not only does this look professional but leaves you free to ask all those questions about the job.
