While contact lenses are great to see better, they do need care if they are to continue to work and not leave one with infected eyes.
Any contact lens which is removed from the eye should be cleaned and disinfected before putting away so that it is clean and ready to use the next time you insert it.
There are several methods to clean contact lenses and the care choice depends on the type of lens. For example, if you suffer from allergies your eyes may form protein deposits. When you first buy your lenses you should talk to the eye doctor to confirm what you need to clean them.
Follow instructions
This means taking advice from the doctor who prescribed them for you. You should also follow instructions from the lens manufacturer and from the leaning solution manufacturer.
Be sure to read the instructions about storing for long periods, and never use them after 30 days unless they have been re-disinfected.
Keep those appointments
Corneas can change shape and you will only find this out with a regular check-up. You should see your eye doctor regularly.
Lenses and water do not mix
Never shower, swim or use a hot tub while wearing them. In fact, do not wear them anywhere if water can get into your eyes.
Take out at night
If you use daily wear lenses then you should remove them at night.
How to clean contact lenses
Before you touch your lenses be sure to wash your hands with soap and water, rinse them and dry on a lint free towel.
Rub the lenses with the solution, rinse them with fresh solution and place in the container.
Additionally you should make sure that the tip of the solution bottle does not touch any surface. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not using it.
It is also a good idea to care for your lens case by rinsing with sterile solution and leaving it to air dry. You should replace the case every three months as a routine as cases do get cracked and damaged.
