How to shave your male client’s face with an electric razor

Most men have been shaving their faces for years and it comes naturally to them to do this. Often in a live-in placement you may be required to shave your male client’s face as they may be unable to do this any longer, and while it is a normal thing for men to do, it may not be quite so normal for a lady to shave her face.

There are some things that will make it easier, particularly if you are required to use an electric razor.

Keep the razor charged

There will be a charging point somewhere which is connected to a plug socket in the wall. You should make sure that the razor stays plugged in and connected after each use.

Shave then wash the face

This is because after washing the face the skin tends to swell slightly and you may not get the smoothest shave if you wash the face before. This is, however, personal and some men do prefer to wash their face first.

Shave daily

It can be difficult for an electric shaver to handle two-day old stubble, so it is best to shave every day instead of leaving for a few days. If the face has long stubble, you may be better using a hand razor first.

Stretch the skin

Use your free hand to gently stretch the area of the face you want to shave. Stretching the skin ensures that you get a smoother shave and helps the razor to glide over the skin.

Hold at a right angle

Keep the razor at a 90-degree angle to the face when you work. Also make sure that you shave against the direction of the beard. Try to go over the same area as little as possible as too much can result in shaving rash.

Keep the pressure on

Although you do not need to put as much pressure on the face with an electric razor, you will get a better shave if you keep some pressure on the face.

Clean the razor

You should clean the razor often as it will quickly get blocked with the hair. Ideally it should be done every second day. The razor will normally come with a small brush for this purpose although you can use an old, soft toothbrush if you do not have a brush.

Final thoughts

While shaving our clients’ faces may not be as relaxing as we would like, it is worth remembering that most men have had their faces touched, stretched and shaved for many years, and they are used to the feel of someone touching them so there is no need to feel uncomfortable when doing it.

As long as your client can sit still, and keep their head up, you should, with a bit of practice, be able to give them a smooth face every day.
