While shaving a person’s face may be easy with an electric razor, you may one day be faced with shaving your client with an old-fashioned razor.
This is not a difficult thing to do but there are some things to bear in mind to make the shave more comfortable for your client, particularly if they have sensitive skin.
Hydrate first
Hydrating the skin helps to minimize nicks and cuts. It also prevents irritation while shaving. Wash the face to soften the hair and the skin.
Use a shaving gel or cream
Now apply shaving gel or cream. You should make a golf-ball sized squirt in the palm of your hand and gently apply this to the face, paying attention to upper lip and under the chin.
Check those blades
If they are worn and look like they have been well-used, then it is better to replace them before you start. A worn blade is a sure way to nick the skin.
Start to shave
Let the razor do the work for you rather than force a shave. Also, shave in the direction that the hair grows as this will be more comfortable for your client than shaving against the hair growth.
Rinse
After every swipe of the razor, rinse it off in water. This will prevent a buildup of shaving cream and cause the razor to work ineffectively. Try not to go over the same spot again and again, do it once while there is shaving gel on the area.
Wash face again
After you and your client are satisfied with the shave, wash the entire face again with a warm facecloth. You may apply moisturizer or shaving lotion after you have finished, depending on your client’s preference.
Store the razor
Keep the razor in a dry area. If it becomes wet there is a chance that parts of it, particularly the blade will star to rust.
