How to remove tissues from the washing

It is so frustrating to do a load of laundry only to find that somewhere a tissue has been left up a sleeve and the entire wash is covered with tiny tissue pieces. While this is frustrating, it is not necessary to redo the entire wash load to remove the pieces.

Shake and dry

Ideally you should shake the clothing out over a bin or even outside, where the entire room will not be dotted with bits of tissue. You may have to shake vigorously to remove the pieces. Use a fabric brush to remove those that stick fast.

Sweep up all the bits and dispose of them as they remain static and will cling to anything that they come in contact with.

Place the clothing in the dryer and turn on. This will catch the remaining pieces in the lint collector which can be emptied after the load is dried. This will collect most, if not all the tissue.

Try aspirin

  • Mix 4 aspirin tablets in about 2 gallons of water and make sure they are dissolved.

  • Place the tissue-covered clothing in hot water and pour the dissolved aspirin into this.

  • Stir well and leave overnight before wringing out and hanging up to dry.

  • If you use a dryer, use the lowest setting.

Final thought

Using dissolved aspirin is a good way to get tissue bits out of pockets and seams as the aspirin dissolves the tissues, wherever they are in the garment. Additionally, aspirin will not harm the fabric and is completely safe to use.
