While many people have grown up with jelly in various forms, it remains a good way to get your client a little bit of extra water. This is particularly important if you are caring for a person who is reluctant to drink water.
Jelly on its own, however, can become boring and monotonous, and if you need to encourage your client to drink more, then you may want to look at other ways to change jelly into something more interesting.
Add fruit
If your client can eat fruit, then you may want to add some to the jelly as it is setting. Cut the fruit up into small pieces and gently stir into the jelly. It will look attractive if the fruit contrasts in colour with the jelly.
Be aware that some clients cannot eat seeds so stay away from fruit like blueberries and strawberries which have tiny seeds.
Make it into a cheesecake
- Make a jelly as normal. You can do two jellies in different colours. When set, slice into squares, and set aside.
- Make a crumb base using digestive biscuits and melted butter. Set this in the fridge.
- Use your favourite cheesecake recipe (this may be cream cheese and condensed milk, or cream).
- Place the jelly squares on the biscuit base and gently pour the cheesecake mixture over them.
- Refrigerate for 5 hours before cutting.
Jelly Mess
- Most people have tried Eton mess and know how yummy it is! You can use set jelly in much the same way.
- Make and set your jelly, then slice it into small cubes.
- Break meringues into small pieces.
- Add small pieces of fruit if you like.
- Mix all together with heavy whipped cream and refrigerate until set.
