How to know when to replace a toothbrush

Many people have no idea of when to replace a toothbrush. How many times have we arrived at a client to see hanging miserably in the bathroom an old, dried up toothbrush which is only good to throw away!

So when should we replace toothbrushes?

Frayed bristles

Bristles fray from overuse and when they are frayed, they no longer work as they should. Time to throw it out and get a new brush.

Fuzzy teeth after brushing

If after brushing for two minutes, your teeth still do not feel squeaky clean then it is time for a new brush.

After sickness

If you or your client has been recently ill, it is a good idea to replace the toothbrush. This is because it can harbor germs which can reinfect.

Bad smell

While we would never willingly put anything into our mouths which smells bad, if your client’s brush has a smell to it, it could be an indication of bacteria or mold and should be replaced.

Finally, if you or your client simply cannot remember when the brush was replaced last, it may be better to throw it away and invest in a new one. Ideally, a brush should be replaced every three months or as soon as you see any wear and tear.
