If you or your client owns an Aga cooker then you may be aware that keeping it in good order will make it run better. This also helps to ensure that the cooker has a long life.
Most people know that Agas need to be serviced, but not many people know exactly when and how often this needs to be done. Additionally, you may be unsure about whether you can do this yourself or need to call a specialist to do it.
Most Agas will need to be serviced every 12 months, although some will require a service every six months and others will only need this once every 5 years. There are also some Agas that never require servicing.
Depending on the model, the engineer will do several checks, namely:
If absolutely necessary, this can be done. However, you should not try this unless you know what you are doing and can do it without damaging any parts.
Whether this is caused by a blocked oil burner or a carbon build-up, this may be a sign that the Aga needs a service. It can also be due to a fault with the oil levels, so it is important to call out a professional as soon as possible.
If the cooker struggles to or fails to ignite it needs to be serviced. Blocked valves are invariably the cause for the cooker not to ignite and they need to be unblocked.
If you notice that the cooker starts to smell funny, or differently than what you are familiar with, it is time to call someone to service it. You may smell something like fumes and oil which is a result of carbon accumulation. In this case you should call as soon as possible.
If the instructions for the Aga are still in the house then you will have a good idea of how often it should be serviced. If not, best to call a technician as soon as you notice any of the three points, or after a year if you cannot find out the last service date.
Because Aga service people are not all that common, you should allow plenty of time as they are often booked for weeks in advance.
