How to keep your client’s feet healthy

If you are ever in any doubt about what to get an older person for a gift, then think about a pedicure.

Most older people cannot reach their toes and keeping their feet in a good condition may be problematic. Even without a pedicure there are some things you can do to keep your client’s feet healthy.

Clean daily

Wash and dry feet daily, make sure that socks are clean and dry. Use lukewarm water which is more comfortable.

Inspect regularly

Keep an eye open for toenails which need to be trimmed and arrange for a chiropodist to visit.

Check the shoes

Not a good idea to wear shoes that are too tight, or too loose. Never let your client share their shoes with their best friend either as you can never be sure the other person’s feet are healthy.

Watch that polish

Never disguise an issue with nail polish. It you see a problem with nails then have it checked out.

Leave the ingrown toenail alone

This is something for the chiropodist who knows what they are doing. Leave it alone and contact someone to visit your client.

Moisturize at night

It is a good idea to use a foot moisturizer at night. And yes, wearing socks in bed is fine as long as they are clean. This will stop excess moisturizer from getting onto sheets.

If socks are not too tight and constricting, there is no reason why your client should not wear them to bed.

Final thought

If your client has chronically cold feet, it may be an idea to have them checked by the doctor as this can be due to an underlying condition.
