It is often an easy and quick way to brighten white fabrics by using bleach, and while this will work, not everyone enjoys working with bleach.
There are other ways to keep white linen bright, which do not involve the use of strong chemicals.
Whether the white fabric is part of the bedding, pillowcases, aprons tea towels, grey stains and discoloration leaves them looking grubby and unattractive.
According to experts like Martha Stewart the colors of white fabrics can easily be revived by using the right temperature of the water, instead of harsh chemicals.
Additionally, using the wrong formula to clean whites can leave them looking much worse.
Although baking soda and white vinegar, and even dish soap are the ingredients we may normally choose, these are not always the best for removing oils and pigmented marks.
It seems, according to the experts that hotter temperatures, rather than strong chemicals are the answer to grubby whites. If you use extra hot water, there is very little need to add other ingredients.
Before you put any laundry into the washing machine, it is important that you separate the colors, keeping white separate from all the rest. You should use a 60-degree wash cycle for your whites.
Note: it is important to also pay attention to any manufacturers label on garments. It is also important that you do not wash whites with colored articles as dye can transfer and make whites even grubbier.
Washable white fabrics should, say the experts, be washed using water that is ‘as hot as the fabric can stand.’
However, if you feel that bleach is the only way, then be sure to opt for only oxygen-based formulas because they will not weaken the fabric.
If you still choose to use bleach, then you should add it along with the detergent for the best results. For extra stubborn stains, or those which are old and set you may opt for a pretreating solution before washing your fabrics.
