Often live-in carers come to the UK from another country and other than the client, have no fixed address in the UK. While most of us can communicate with friends and family online these days, you may find that you need to have post delivered to an address.
Having no address can cause a problem if you have ordered anything online, but there are several ways to have your items delivered to you.
Agency
Some agencies will allow you to use their location as your own address. In fact, some agencies have a section set up where all your post is handled. You are notified that you have a letter or parcel, and they will send this out to the placemen you are currently at.
Agencies will charge a nominal fee for this service, normally this is an annual fee. Sometimes they will charge you for redirecting anything although this is not exorbitant.
Client
If you are placed for a long term at a client then you may ask them, or family/next of kin if you can use their address. Many times, they will agree to this, but you should be sure to stop any post after you have left there.
Always better to ask first, rather than presume it will be alright. If you do this, then you should also tell the postman that you will receive post there, otherwise he may think it is not for there and return it.
Drop box
There are several drop boxes in the UK which offer an address and a post forwarding service. Google will bring up a list of them. These are not expensive, charged annually, and they will scan your post, email it to you and ask if you want it sent or destroyed.
www.ghostmail.co.uk will give you an address should you need this for any reason. They will also forward your post to any address you like.
They charge a fee for forwarding parcels and letters although this is not expensive. This is an excellent way if you do not have a long placement, or just want somewhere to have your post sent safely.
Final thoughts
Having your post delivered to your client’s address is the easiest way, and the cheapest. However, it may not always be the best way. Sometimes it is better to have an optional address in the UK and using a drop box may suit you better.
