How to get access to speaking books

It can be very sad to be caring for a client who obviously loved to read and cannot anymore because of their condition. Sometimes hearing a story read will also calm agitated people.

There are several listening book clubs in the UK such as Listening Books, which provide a postal and internet-based audiobook service. There are over 100,000 UK residents who through either disability or illness cannot read anymore, and companies like this provide a service for them.

Listening Book services are quick and easy to use and provide books for people with all types of conditions such as visual impairments, arthritis, and mental health anxiety. They have a huge range of both fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults.

For clients who are safe to be left alone while we take our breaks, listening books are a great way to stop them feeling lonely. In fact, listening may distract them from feeling ill and give them something else to focus on.

Listening Books can deliver subjects other than fiction and non-fiction. Magazines from around the world are available as are newspapers which are updated daily.

Many listening book companies are run as charities, so memberships are free or very affordable. You will be able to select your book or magazine, request it to be delivered to your door and once finished, simply mail it back to the company.

If your client has always enjoyed reading, there is no reason why they should not be able to continue to enjoy books this way.
