Now that the days are warmer, you may feel the urge to get outside more often and enjoy them. Unfortunately, your client may not be inclined to agree with you.
Many live-in carers enjoy walking and getting out and about, but often clients will resist this, to the point of appearing stubborn and truculent.
You may never be able to completely change an old habit, but it is possible to encourage your client outdoors occasionally.
Many older clients will have, in their younger days, enjoyed pottering around the garden. A visit to a local garden centre to look at and possibly buy a plant or two may be a great opportunity to get a bit of fresh air.
While it is great for friends to visit your client, suggest that they return the visit. The friend may arrange to sit in the garden for tea, or even invite other people around for a get together.
If your clients house has a patio then perhaps you could place some comfy chairs in the shade, but in the fresh air. People watching is a great pastime for many people and this gives the opportunity to chat with neighbours as well as to get some fresh air.
If you do take your client for walks, then be sure to use a sunblock for them. Take a hat and sunglasses as well as bottles of water for yourself and your client.
