Often as live-in carers we pay plenty of attention to our client and not enough to ourselves. While we organise to have their fingernails done and feet pedicured, hair cut and so forth, sometimes it is possible to let our own hair get out of control.
With the best intention of having your bangs trimmed, you may also find yourself in a rural area with no transport and little more than a pair of scissors to neaten up bangs.
Find a quiet time to do this. You do not need to be disturbed while trying to cut your bangs. Ideally you want to be in front of a mirror over the basin so that you can catch the trimmed hair there rather than on the floor. If not, then be sure to place an old towel on the floor where you will be working.
In the centre of your head about 2 inches above the hairline, take a comb and make a triangle parting, ending on either side of your eyebrows. Pull the hair together and pin the back area away from your face so that the two are separate. You should end up with a triangle patch of hair which you will trim.
If you are simply trimming a fringe, you can dampen the bangs but if it is a first time then it helps to keep the hair dry. Bear in mind that cutting dry hair will give the best results. Dry hair will enable you to cut it to the exact length while damp hair will be shorter after cut.
Some people want a fringe that is dead level and straight while others prefer a raggedy style. Make sure you know what you want before you start.
Take the triangle of hair between two fingers to give you a straight line. Even if the hair is long, you should start this way. You can always trim it shorter.
Cut the hair in front of your fingers in a horizontal line. Make a cut along the entire length and then take a look. If the bangs are too long, repeat the process by snipping off another ¼ inch at a time. Use the mirror to make sure that both sides are even.
If you want bangs which are longer at the sides, then cut at an angle at both ends. Make sure that the ends are level. You can make this angle as shallow or as steep as you like.
You can make the bangs less of a straight line by taking small snips with the scissors pointed in the same direction as the hair. If you have a pair of shining shears, then you can also soften them this way.
You don’t need to be constantly clipping your bangs back because they have become too long. It is a relatively quick process to neaten them up yourself. Make sure that the scissors are sharp before you start and go slowly, taking off a small amount at a time.
