You may notice that your client or you seem to be going through a good amount of sugar. Many people will want to keep their own weight under control, and this may sometimes be difficult when living with a client
Weight gain and obesity are the most common side effect of eating an excess of sugar. Sugar contains empty calories which are nutritionally not beneficial to most people. Excess calories remain in the body and are stored as fat. Before we know it, we have gained weight.
Regular high sugar consumption in either ourselves or our client can lead to the development of type-2 diabetes. This happens because the excess sugar intake can cause a resistance to insulin. This in turn impairs the body’s ability to regulate sugar levels.
Regularly consuming excess sugar will reduce your immune functions and you may find that you are more prone to infections and illnesses.
Eating too much sugar may mean that you or your client cuts down on other foods which are more beneficial to good health. Over time this will lead to nutrient deficiencies and health and wellbeing may be affected.
Excess sugar contributes to the growth of bacteria in the mouth which can and often does lead to tooth decay and cavities. The enamel on teeth is also affected by sugar.
You may try this at breakfast. Replace sugar with natural and dry fruits to add flavor to breakfast cereals. If you don’t feel you can stop right away then it is a good idea to reduce your intake by half, then half again, until you feel you no longer need it.
Water is the best way to quench thirst and it is better to opt for water than reach for a soda. You can also replace soda with fresh fruit juice or flavor the water with lemon, lime, or coconut water.
If possible, opt for products with the lowest sugar levels. Check the labels for hidden sugars such as fructose and glucose which may appear in the ingredient list.
Use extracts
Instead of flavoring a dish with sugar, you may try cinnamon or nutmeg. Vanilla, orange, and lemon are also pleasant and can enhance the flavor od a dish without the need to add sugar.
Diabetes is something that we should all try to avoid, in ourselves and our client. Additionally, being overweight may leave one feeling ill and more susceptible to other illnesses. A little less sugar in our diet may be a simple answer to better health for both you and your client.
