Many of our clients enjoy salmon, and it is very good for them. However, when we cook it, it does seem as if the house smells of fish for several days afterwards. While the smell of cooked salmon is delicious at mealtimes, it is not so pleasant two days afterwards when it lingers.
The easiest and possible the best way to cook salmon is to bake it in the oven. Not only will this cause the least amount of smell, but it is also less messy than frying it.
Heat the oven to 275 degrees F
Place the salmon fillets in a baking dish
Rub all over with olive oil. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Bake until the salmon flakes easily or a thermometer in the thickest part reads 120 degrees F. This should take about 30 minutes for a 6oz piece of salmon.
Place your salmon fillets in a microwave dish.
Rub a small amount of mayonnaise on the upper sides of the filets.
Microwave on full for about 2 minutes. Check to see if the salmon is cooked. If not give it another minute. This will depend on your microwave power.
Stand for a minute to finish cooking and serve.
The easiest way is to gently press the fish with your finger or a fork. If the flesh flakes easily the fish is cooked. You should remove it from the heat right away.
Whichever way you choose to cook your salmon, be sure to use a dish which has sides as there is a certain amount of moisture which will seep out. It is easier to wash a dish than the entire inside of the oven.
