It’s great to arrive at a placement to find that you have internet. Ideally, the outgoing carer will have time to show you where everything is and where you find the password so that you can log on. If not, you may spend valuable time looking for this.
Hopefully, the placement you go to will have a fast connection such as 3G or 4G, although in older houses you may even find the old-fashioned form of Dial-up. This is normally the slowest type of connection. Dial-up uses a phone line so unless there are multiple lines in the house only one person will be able to log on at a time.
Normally you will find the password on the back of the router. The router allows several computers to all be connected at the same time, so you and your client can be online at the same time.
Many routers are wireless which means that you can use your computer in various locations in the house.
What if you can’t find the password?
If your client has a computer which is already connected to the internet then there is a way you can retrieve the password for yourself.
Once you have the password you should be able to enter it on your own laptop or phone and use the internet in the house. Make a note of the password for any other new carer who may arrive after you.
