While tumble driers are a great convenience, especially in rainy weather, they also need regular maintenance to keep them working well and efficiently.
There are many different types of drier but basically cleaning them is much the same. If you are in any doubt about a particular drier, you should check the manufacturer’s instructions first.
How to clean a tumble drier
1. Unplug the drier from the wall. Never leave it in while you are cleaning it.
2. Once unplugged remove the lint filter which is most likely to be found at the front of the drier. Clean out any lint from the filter.
3. If you have a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool, you should use this to clean the lint trap and the air exhaust vent which you will find on the back of the drier.
4. With a damp cloth you should wipe the interior of the drier. You can dampen the cloth with a mild detergent.
5. Check the vent hose and make sure that there is no clogging.
6. Reattach the vent hose and replace the vent filter.
7. Plug back into the socket.
8. Run a cycle to ensure that the drier is working correctly.
Final thought
It only takes a few minutes to clean the tumble drier, but it will extend the life of the drier if it works efficiently.
