I became a carer because l wanted to help people. Throughout my experience over the past years,l have realized that being a carer is being strong, being gentle and, most importantly, it’s about what is important to the person we are taking care of. As a carer I am able to help people do and achieve things that they would not be able to by themselves, but every person is different and unique and this means that we have to pay attention to the small details (what food they like eating, what plates to use, favourite outfits and pride in their appearance, their favourite TV shows, etc.). It is usually the little things that others don’t think matter that make the biggest difference in someone’s quality of life and are of crucial importance to the person that we are caring for. It is my job as a carer to ensure that I understand my customer's needs and wants, and I will continuously to improve the way I deliver care, seeking the necessary feedback that I am doing the right job and above all taking pride in what l do every day, making my customer happy!
